Helping Employers - Especially Small Businesses - Rehire & Retain Workers Through The Expanded Employee Retention Credit
To help the workforce, the Federal Government extended and expanded the Employee Retention Tax Credit (ERTC) in the American Rescue Plan. For 2020, the ERTC offered up to 50 percent of the first $10,000 in wages, for a total of $5,000 per employee. In 2021, the ERTC offered eligible employers with 500 or fewer employees up to 70 percent of the first $10,000 in wages for quarters 1, 2, and 3 for a total of $21,000 per employee. In other words, this refundable credit will cover up to $26,000 for each employee.
